Although almost all of the attention during a pregnancy is on the mother and her unborn child, there is most often a very important third person in pregnancy: that is the father or partner of the baby. Remember that they too are going through a myriad of changes as your pregnancy progresses.
Here are some tips to make your partner feel more connected during pregnancy:
Take some time to ask them about their feelings during the pregnancy, and what concerns they may have after baby is born
If possible, include them in your maternal health consultations
Encourage friends that have had a baby to communicate and share their experiences and challenges with your partner
Ensure they are given the opportunity to cuddle, hold and talk to baby immediately after birth
Encourage new dads/partners to help bathe, clothe and soothe your newborn
